Kinkakuji Temple
<-(260K)

The original estate in the Kitayama district of Kyoto was used as a villa by the third Muromachi shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu and called Kitayama-dono (Kitayama Palace). After his death, it was converted into a Zen-sect temple with the Zen master Muso Soseki as its first abbot.
Given the formal name of Rokuonji, the Kinkaku-ji has a gilded three-storied structure. Its ground floor is constructed in the "shinden-zukuri" architectural style, the second floor in the "buke-zukuri" (samurai) style and the top floor in the Chinese Buddhist style.
