Sannen-zaka <-(275K)
|
This pedestrian road consists of a series of stone pavements and steps lined on both sides with traditional Kyoto-style houses of merchants and souvenir shops in the "sukiya" style. The road corresponds to the approach to the Koyasu Kannon to which people pray for easy delivery in childbirth. The road is also called "Sannei-zaka" where "sannei" means easy deliveries. In addition to this road, there are several sloping walkways such as Ninen-zaka. Kiyomizu-zaka, and Gojo-zaka which are pilgrimage routes to the Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Retaining the flavor of the old lifestyle of Kyoto citizens, the area covering Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka is designated an important traditional architecture preservation area by the national government. |
