Kiyomizu Temple

Kiyomizudera is thought to have been founded with the private financial support of General Sakanoue no Tamuramaro in the 8th century. Situated halfway up the Otowayama hill, its precincts of approx.
120,000 m2 contain various buildings designated national treasures or important cultural properties. Among them is the so-called "Kiyomizu-no-butai" (veranda of Kiyomizu) which is built out over a cliff and affords a panoramic view of the city of Kyoto. The Otowa-no-taki located east of the main hall are waterfalls whose water is said to be a universal remedy.
