It is said the Holy Priest Gyoki constructed Onsenji Temple here in Arima in the Nara Period and since then, noble people in Kyoto and Nara have enjoyed the baths. Onsenji Temple, also called Yakushi-do Hall, is said to have been constructed by Gyogi in the Nara Period. Haira-taisho Statue ,an Important Cultural Property, which is said to be sculpted by Unkei and Tankei in the Kamakura Period, guards the Yakushi Buddha. Hideyoshi Toyotomi remodeled the facilities and held tea-ceremony parties with Senno Rikyu. Kinsen, a golden hot spring with the color of rust, Ginsen, a silver hot spring with no color, and Tansan-sen, a carbonic acid hot spring are said to have some healing effects on deseases.
