national treasures

This carving of a bodhisattva is enshrined in a special room of the inner repository of the Daihozoden (great treasure house) of Horyuji. Although when and by whom it was created are unknown, it has been called Kudara Kannon (goddess of mercy) because of the legend that it came from Kudara (Paekche), an ancient Korean kingdom. This 2-meter tall slim sculpture is designated a national treasure.
