Uji City Citizen Tourist Guide Service

Citizen tourist guides will assist you in visiting Uji, a city with abundant cultural assets based on more than one thousand years of history. Feel free to use this service.

[How to apply for the service]
Please contact our office at least one week before your planned visit (if possible), giving us the following information:
the date of visit, the number of tourists in your group, the type of course and kinds of places you would like to visit and so on. Even if you request the use of the service on the day of your visit to the city, we will make every effort to meet your request. (Application by phone or fax is also possible.)

[Donation]
These are volunteers but we ask that you pay 3000 yen per guide for four hours or less and 1000 yen per guide for every two hours beyond the first four-hour period. Please note that tourists are responsible for actual costs incurred during the guided tour including admissions and transportation expenses.

[Type of course]
< Standard course > (in Japanese)
This course includes visits to major sightseeing spots in the city.
< Tale-of-Genji course > (in Japanese)
This course focuses on relics associated with the Tale of Genji's last ten chapters and with the Heian Period.
< English-language course >
This course provides guide service in English.

As a rule, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
