Edo Period
The Birthplace of Daito Kokushi

The Horin-ji Temple, located in Ibocho, Tatsuno city, is said to be the birthplace of Daito Kokushi who is the founder of the Daitoku-ji Temple in Kyoto. In 1738, the Daitoku-ji Temple asked for permission from the lord of the manor to erect a small monastery, Horin-an, in his manor. In 1882, when the monastery was heavily damaged, Daitoku-ji Temple obtained permission to rebuild it and changed the name to Horin-ji Temple.
