Mozu Necropolis (Tomb Cluster)

Before the Kofun (Tumuli) Period

The Mozu mound cluster zone, stretching approximately 4 kilometers in all directions, covers 46 tomb mounds (kofun) constructed during the 4th to 6th centuries, including the Nintoku mausoleum and the Richu's. The cluster is one of the typical Japanese mound clusters along with the Furuichi tumuli lying over Fujiidera and Habikino cities in Osaka Prefecture.
Although there were once over 100 mounds, today only 20 keyhole-shaped mounds (zempo koen fun), 21 round ones (empun) and 5 square ones (hofun) remain.
