Sempuku-ji Temple's Bell


Designated Important Cultural Property
Heian Period

This bell was made in 1176.
It is 78.5 cm tall and has an inside diameter of 46.2 cm. The inscription is in old-style characters. It is reported that Saint Shunjobo Chogen, who played a key role in the reconstruction of Todai-ji Temple in Nara, solicited contributions for the making of this bell.
