Tomb of Chikamatsu (Kosai-ji Temple)

National Historic Spot
Edo Period

The gravestone lies next to Kosai-ji Temple's main building. It is a 50-cm tall chlorite-schist stone missing the left shoulder area. His posthumous Buddhist name (Anokuin-bokuinichi-ichigusoku-koji) is engraved on its surface.
This name was chosen by Chikamatsu himself and used in his farewell poem. At Tanimachi in Osaka, there is also a similar tomb of Chikamatsu in the former compound of Myoho-ji Temple.
